Job Summary

The Business Relationship Manager (BRM) is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships between suppliers And the company. The responsibility includes developing strategies to strengthen relationships, manage supplier and contract performance, meet or exceed financial plans, resolve issues, and ensure contracts and performance continuously improve to meet the needs of the Members.  This position plays an active role with cross-functional teams requiring strong communication and analytics skills.



Supplier Relationship Management (50%)
• Build and manage supplier relationships that contribute to growth in the utilization of the contract portfolio within an assigned category.
• Develop joint go-to-market plans with suppliers in close partnership with the Member Engagement and Marketing teams.
• Develop strategies for expanding utilization as well as gaining understanding around member strategy for underutilized contract offerings.
• Routinely discuss business trends, barriers, and growth opportunities for suppliers with internal and external teams and propose effective business solutions to increase contract utilization.
• Manage communication between suppliers and company.
• Seek ways to ensure effective negotiations and relationship management with Business Partners by encouraging an atmosphere of trust, openness, and communication in a collaborative environment with shared objectives.
• Lead regular business reviews utilizing quantitative and qualitative performance metrics and other data to ensure plans are being met, and to drive continuous improvement in the partnership with suppliers.
• Assist the Contract Implementation Manager in the development and implementation of a comprehensive contract roll-out, including supplier onboarding and training, launch of a go-to-market plan, internal training, contract documentation, and Member education materials.
• Lead issue identification and resolution. 
• Develop and implement supplier performance management processes to ensure that all obligations of the contract are met and carried out in a manner that represents a balance between the interests of  the Membership and the supplier.
• Use judgement when differences arise in interpretation of contract language and policy and ensure the fairest ethical and effective position or actions for the situation.  Take responsibility for collaborating with internal and external parties communicating the position or actions in a transparent fashion.
Supplier Monitoring, Analytics, and Reporting (35%)
• Monitor and improve contract performance, and report on overall member service and support. 
• Assist in the development of forecasts. 
• Conduct analysis of current and projected spending on contracts to identify opportunities for increasing spend, setting goals, and measuring performance
• Prepare portfolio-specific reports including performance to sales plans, service level performance, contract performance, and other performance indicators as relevant.
• Leverage company data to predict, measure, and understand the outcomes of strategic decisions with the contract and within the category.
• Track and report sourcing-based cost savings for members and other key metrics.
• Develop and present data-driven reports and potential sourcing strategies to leadership.
• Monitor and track contract utilization to include item level and services utilized by members.
• Use data to support routine audits, reporting, and compliance reviews.
• Work with colleagues to develop processes, tools, and technology to support improved supplier analytics. 
Strategic Initiatives & Process Improvements (10%)
• Play an active role with cross-departmental teams, participating in strategic initiatives and proposing innovative solutions to problems of medium to high complexity.
• Act as a supplier diversity and sustainability champion, partnering with the Director of Supplier Diversity to align goals and guidelines to increase diverse supplier participation in sourcing events and increase sustainability options for our members.
• Maintain understanding of assigned supplier capabilities and the contract language to support proper compliance and issue resolution.
• Assist the Category Vice President in developing business process improvements on contracts and within the category.
• Identify cost avoidance, savings, and utilization opportunities for assigned contracts.
Other Activities as Assigned (5%)

Required Skills

Bachelor’s Degree or MBA in business administration, supply chain management, or related discipline preferred.  
• 7+ years of recent supply chain experience in the private or higher education sector.  
• Ability to utilize a high level of decision-making in developing and managing relationships with internal and external constituents.
• Experience cultivating a collaborative environment, utilizing influential relationship building skills that manage the needs of members, suppliers, and E&I. 
• Proven experience analyzing and developing accurate conclusions to manage supplier performance based on key data.  
• Experience utilizing performance management tools to maximize operational and financial performance while reducing risk to E&I and the E&I Membership.
• Proven ability to think quickly, analyze the situation, demonstrate best practices, and navigate complex business, contractual and relationship issues and identify and address potential risks.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to be fluent across these constituencies.  Strong oral and writing communications skills, excellent analytical, problem solving, negotiation and organizational skills are required.

• Proven ability to have driven and completed multiple, complex technical and analytical projects.
• Adaptable and flexible to leverage change as an opportunity for growth and improvement while proactively responding to changing directions, products, and market segments and managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office tools. 
• National travel to engage business partner leaders, members, and other strategic partners (approx. 15%)
